Facebook fans of Visit Richmond VA can enter to win VIP Wine Weekend; Travelers can raise a glass to hotel packages, events and specials in October
The Richmond Region is celebrating Virginia Wine Month with festivals, hotel packages and great deals on wine. Visitors are invited to travel to Richmond to experience Virginia Wine and more in the capital of the state that Travel + Leisure recently named as one of five wine regions to visit.
The first ever MARTIN'S presents Richmond International Wine Excursion, taking place October 28-29, will feature a weekend of premier wine events including grand tastings, a "locavore" luncheon and wine-tasting seminar. The event will also feature global cuisine from some of the Region's finest chefs and restaurateurs. Notable presenters include world-renown importer Bartholomew Broadbent and Georg Riedel, the 10th generation scion of the world-class Riedel Glass Company. The Richmond International Wine Excursion will be held on the grounds of Richmond's Historic Tredegar Iron Works, now home to the "Gateway to the Civil War" visitor center, the American Civil War Center and the National Battlefield Park headquarters. The Facebook page of the Richmond Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau, Visit Richmond VA, is holding a contest for a grand prize VIP wine weekend to celebrate Virginia Wine Month. The grand prize features a weekend in Richmond during the new MARTIN'S presents the Richmond International Wine Excursion on October 28 and 29. The package will include:
- two VIP passes to the St. Michelle Wine Estates Seminar
- two first class Lexus of Richmond Walk-Around Grand Tasting tickets
- special wine and food tastings
- a two night stay at the Berkeley hotel for Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29
- dinner for two at Amour Wine Bistro on Friday, October 28
- Richmond Regions attractions pass to admit two to most area attractions
The contest runs through October 10.
Also taking place in Richmond during Virginia Wine Month is the 8th Annual Carytown Food and Wine Festival, "A Taste of Carytown," October 9 from 12-6 p.m. The festival spotlights the great wines of the Region as well as delicious food prepared by area restaurants. Richmond Region hotels are offering Virginia Wine Month packages. Richmond Region wine bars and wine shops are also offering special deals during October. The Cellar Door will have 50% off all bottles of wine on Tuesday night as part of their date night and will feature Virginia wines. C'est Le Vin Wine Bar will offer a 10 percent discount on all Virginia Wine bottles and five dollar glasses of Virginia Wine. The Wine Loft will hold a Virginia Wine Backpack Challenge throughout the month of October, with a backpack being donated to Central Virginia's Food Bank backpack for kids program for every bottle of Virginia Wine sold.
Though October is a great time to celebrate wine in Virginia, the Richmond Region celebrates wine throughout the year with multiple wineries and wine bars. James River Cellars Winery and New Kent Winery are open year-round and provide tastings and tours. The family-owned Woodland Vineyard offers tastings and tours from mid-March through early December.
