It’s easy to get lost in the amazing breadth and depth of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ encyclopedic art collection. The features include the Mellon collections of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and British sporting art; the Pratt collection of Peter Carl Fabergé; European and American masterpieces of paintings; and an extensive collection of English silver. New galleries of Art Nouveau and Art Deco decorative arts and modern and contemporary art open in the spring.

*Please Note: The Grand Opening of the expanded and transformed Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will be May 1, 2010.  Due to construction current galleries will go off view according to this schedule:  The Lillian Thomas Pratt Collection of Russian Imperial Jewels by Peter Carl Fabergé and the Jerome and Rita Gans Collection of English Silver on view through June 14; “Labor and Leisure: Works by African-American Artists” on view through June 14; British Sporting Art and Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, and exhibition “George Morland: Poet of English Country Life” on view through June 28. VMFA Shop and Arts Café will remain open through June 28.

As of June 28 all galleries are off view and the shop and café will be closed until May 1, 2010.

Buildings on the Museum's campus are open Wed.-Sun. 11 am-5 pm. for programs, meetings, Art After Hours and Third Thursdays, and wedding receptions and private events.  With the exception of programs and special events, the Main Museum Building will not be open to the public.
