Civil War and Emancipation Events in the Richmond Region

ColumnApril 1 through April 4, 2015, the Richmond Region will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the evacuation of the Confederate government from the city and the entry of the Union Army - the moment that brought an end to slavery and the American Civil War. This calendar details specific programs during the four-day commemoration and throughout the year offered by museums, national parks, historic societies, and cultural institutions exploring Richmond's journey from the end of slavery and Civil War to today.
