The Richmond Region-where more than 400 years of American history lives on through world class museums, historic homes, gardens, battlefields, monument-lined cobblestone streets and magnificent architecture. But history is only the beginning. The Region offers visitors an incredible array of special events. From cutting-edge modern art exhibits, to sporting events, concerts, festivals and everything in between. The Richmond Region has something for everyone!

Civil War and Emancipation 150th

To highlight the Richmond Region's pivotal role and commemorate the ending of slavery in America, Virginia is observing the Civil War and Emancipation 150th Anniversary from 2011 to 2015.

Maharaja: The Splendors of India's Great Kings

The first exhibition to explore the extraordinarily rich visual culture of India's last royal families, Maharaja: The Splendors of India's Great Kings, spans the period from the early 18th century to the mid-20th century, bringing together over 200 magnificent objects. It examines the changing role of the maharajas ("great kings") within a social and historical context, and reveals how their patronage of the arts, both in India and Europe, resulted in splendid and beautiful objects symbolic of royal status, power and identity.

"Give me Liberty" Re-enactment

Historical re-enactors portray Founding Fathers including Patrick Henry, who gives his stirring "give me liberty or give me death" speech. Every Sunday, Memorial Day-Labor Day, as well as July 4.
