The Richmond Region Tourism Foundation is a 501(c)(3) entity organized to conduct and support activities that promote the advancement and further the charitable and educational activities within the purpose of the Richmond Region Tourism. Specific Foundation activities include supporting the I am Tourism Ambassador training program and funding an annual scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded at the Richmond Region Open Golf Tournament and is made possible through proceeds from the tournament.

Makaela recently completed an internship at the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Spa in Monterey, CA, in which she was able to acquire first-hand knowledge about event execution from beginning to end. Her academic honors and awards include induction into Eta Sigma Delta National Hospitality Honor Society where she serves as vice president. She is also a member of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality where she serves as the membership director.
