In addition to quickly cementing itself as a culinary destination, the Richmond region is also gaining momentum in the wine world.  Whether your favorite wine is “a red” or “a white” (just kidding, oenophiles), there are plenty of options to learn, taste, and buy a diverse wine selection in the Richmond Region.

Barrel Thief

Founded in 2007, this near West End wine shop and café stocks over 400 labels from around the world. Enjoy a glass, quartino or bottle while munching on snacks, sandwiches, cheeses, desserts and more in their quaint café seating area (and a patio!). The bright, welcoming art adorned brick walls welcome guests to sit and sip in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Wine Loft

An upscale wine bar situated in West Broad Village near Short Pump, this modern, swanky option offers 85 different wines by the glass as well as 250 wines by the bottle. A fine cuisine menu compliments the wine options, and the bar space itself hosts tastings, nightly specials, live jazz and even a Spirited Art class that combines acrylic painting and wine tasting for a fun evening! Sample a glass on the covered patio and have the non-grape-nut in your life try their full listing of beer and mixed drinks.

Café Caturra

With two locations, one in Midlothian and one in the near West End, Café Caturra is a great pit stop for coffee, lunch, a full dining menu, and of course, wine. A cool, fast, full of light café, Café Caturra lets you “try before you buy” offering complimentary samples in a classy but casual atmosphere perfect for a girls night or weekend lunch.

Secco Wine Bar

Ultra-hip and full of swagger, this “European style eatery” in Carytown and wine bar lures you in with its recycled wood walls, cork bar and black leather couches and makes you stay for its impressive list of limited produced, terroir based wines (over 40 by the glass) as well as craft beers, local Lamplight coffee and Carytown tea as well as an eclectic mix of seasonal items, snacks, various small plates, cheeses and charcuterie.

Corks & Kegs

A Richmond Region staple since 1990, Corks & Kegs has a neighborhood feel of a local wine shop, which it is. Boasting over 1,000 wines, the knowledgeable staff accentuates taste, value, and accessibility of its wines and offers a wide variety including reds, whites, roses, champagnes, organic wine, meads, sulfite free wines, alcohol free wines, ice wines and even sake. Go on a Friday for a wine tasting!
