It's been 150 years since the Blue and Gray laid down arms and the country reconciled after four years of war. The Richmond Region played a key role in the Civil War and commemorations are happening throughout the city in April to celebrate the sesquicentennial (sess - cwe - cen - tennial...isn't that a fun word?)
The Valentine is celebrating epic beards, on both sides, with Beard Wars opening March 26 and running through November 30.
Terry Brown Photography partnered up with members of the RVA Beard League to recreate legendary facial hair of Confederate and Union generals. This is a truly unique experience at the Valentine, blending Richmond's past with its present and bright future.
Complementing Beard Wars are shaving accessories and other objects from the Valentine collection. A mid-19th century taxidermied ram’s head snuff mull, or humidor, will greet visitors in the Klaus Lobby.
