Gardens aren't just for spring and summer. You can have a lovely time taking to the trail, the Garden Trail, in the Richmond Region in the cooler months. We recommend taking Uber or a cab or a bike on this trail because there's gonna be some booze. This date is good for an afternoon or early evening, depending on how you schedule it.

Stop One: Lewis Ginter

USA Today called Lewis Ginter one of the best public gardens in the world, and we have to agree. The gardens are just as beautiful in the Winter months as they are in the summer. There's something romantic about a garden in the winter. Then once you're done being maudlin and romantic, stop into the Garden Cafe for one glass, and just one because you've got a lot of touring to do yet, of wine.

Call your Uber because it's time for the next stop!

Stop Two: Maymont

Maymont has a special Love Tour running on Valentine's Day. "Discover the Victorian language of love as depicted in the décor of Maymont Mansion, where romantic swans, red roses and costly indulgences reflect James Dooley's loving devotion to his wife, Sallie." Then take a private horse and carriage ride with your dearest!

Stop Three: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

It's been a bit since your last glass of wine, so we recommend hopping in your Uber, or taking a half hour stroll and topping up at Amuse at the VMFA. Once you've properly refueled, and had an app or two, check out the grounds that make the VMFA a stop on the Garden Trail or enjoy the collections inside the museum.

Your date can end there, or you can hit some other stops on the Richmond Garden Trail like Agecroft, Virginia Center for Architecture, Capitol Square, the Valentine or the Edgar Allan Poe Museum.
