It's the weekend y'all! That means your favorite brass band at the Broadberry, Friday Cheers tonight on Brown's Island, Savor on Brown's Island tomorrow, Juneteenth all weekend and all kinds of Dad celebrations. Here's your RVA weekend: all about that brass (and dad):
When: Friday through Saturday Where: VCU Campus/Manchester Dock What? This holiday is the oldest nationally celebrated emancipation commemoration. Elegba Folklore Society programs a combination of history with a contemporary family gathering featuring performances, speakers, The Freedom Market and children’s activities. A symposium and the Annual Torch Lit Night Walk on the Trail of Enslaved Africans are featured. Elegba Folklore Society introduced Juneteenth to Richmond in 1996. (Third weekend in June.)
When: Friday 8 p.m. Where: The Broadberry What? Arguably the most fun band in all of RVA playing a show at the Broadberry for 10 bucks. Just go already.
When: Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Where: Byrd Park What? Inspired by open streets projects all over the world, this event is about closing streets to cars and opening them to the public — for one day — to create a whole new healthy, sustainable and vibrant city street experience. FREE and open to everyone to do what you wish – run, walk, bike, roller blade, WHATEVER! Make sure to check out the vendors lining the streets with free activities for the entire family!
When: Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Where: Harvest Grocery and Supply What? Join us for a Fathers Day shopping event of Richmond's finest local brands. Roaring Pines, Shine Craft Vessels, Helm & Craft, Yesterdays Heroes Vintage and Light Box Print Co. and Square Trade Goods Co. will all be selling our wares. J.M. Stock Provisions will be grilling up some tasty treats as well as a knife sharpener. Come out and hang, eat and shop!
