About the Exhibit:
“Mystery of Mysteries” at annes Visual Art Studio gallery brings together a selection of Semtner’s recent paintings of dreams, memories, and mysteries. Drawing inspiration from nineteenth-century art and literature, silent horror films, and old Virginia architecture; Semtner’s work evokes a sense of mystery through the merging of dream and reality into images that suggest open-ended narratives or mysteries without solutions. This will be Semtner’s first show at anne’s Visual Art Studio gallery since 2019.
During the opening reception, Semtner will be signing copies of his most recent book, “Haunting Poe” Edgar Allan Poe’s Afterlife in Richmond and Beyond,” the stranger-than-fiction story of Poe’s ghost drawn from legends, lore, and first-hand accounts of those who claim to have seen the disembodied spirit of the nineteenth-horror century author in houses, forts, libraries, museums—and even bars—from Providence to Charleston.
