Dr. Mary Lynn Bayliss presents an overview of her recently published book, The Dooleys of Richmond, which tells the story of a dynamic Irish Catholic immigrant family who came to Virginia in the nineteenth century. James Henry Dooley became a leading Richmond lawyer and philanthropist, builds a fortune through the development of railroads and plays a key role in the emergence of the New South. He and his wife Sallie built Maymont, their Gilded Age estate, today recognized as a major historic site in Virginia.
