A Midsummer Night's Dream

Be prepared with A Midsummer Night’s Dream for more than a vivid retelling of Shakespeare’s classic story. This tour-de-force opera by Benjamin Britten ranks right up there with Verdi’s masterpieces and the all-time best of comic opera. The incentive and enchanting score offers a rich display od musical parody mimicking the entangled story-lubes and character interactions.
Leading an all-star cast will be Virginia Opera favorites-soprano Heather Buck, singing the role of Tytania, and baritone Matthew Burns in the comic role of Bottom. Former Herdon Foundation Emerging Artist, David Blalock, returns in the role of Lysander. Heather Buck’s outstanding vocal pyrotechnics (The Magic Flute, 2013) will be on full display, as will the amazing comic and vocal genius of Matthew Burns (The Barber of Seville, 2016).
Adam Turner conducts this opera’s dynamic score with its lush melodies and evocative interludes and ensures a musical statement that enchants and bedazzles.
Sung in English with English Supertitles.
The orchestra for this production is provided by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
