An Evening with Kaffe Fassett

Kaffe Fassett: Quilts in Ireland Book Tour
Quilter’s Corner of Midlothian Virginia is thrilled to announce world-renowned artist, Kaffe Fassett, will be joining our studio in October 2017 for a weekend of colorful enrichment. A lecture, Thursday, October 12th at 7pm will be followed by two days of workshops, October 13th and 14th.
Kaffe Fassett grew up on the Pacific Coast studying at briefly at the School of the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, before traveling overseas to paint and settle permanently in England. In the purest sense of the word, Kaffe Fassett is a true artisan. His career, spanning almost five decades, has influenced fashion design, quilt design, fabric design, knitting, patchwork and needlework. Through his journey, he has opened our eyes to see color as a whole rather than as distinct and separate units.
The Quilter’s Corner weekend of “Color with Kaffe” begins Thursday evening at the Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center with a lecture followed by a book signing. The Kaffe Fassett lecture is designed to inspire and motivate. This presentation highlights works from his latest projects. A tremendous amount of Kaffe’s inspiration comes from his continual travels and his lecture is designed not so much to instruct but to empower and inspire the audience to create and develop their “mind’s eye”. Audiences leave invigorated – entranced by Kaffe’s sense and use of color; they are ready to try it themselves and are encouraged to do so. We will have a variety of Kaffe Fassett’s books, fabrics and kits available for purchase prior to and following the lecture.
Friday and Saturday workshops will be available to a limited number of participants. They will entail hands-on classes with both Kaffe Fasset and his studio director, associate and artist in his own right, Brandon Mably. We will be studying color and design with participants encouraged to develop their own pallet and aesthetic.
Quilter’s Corner first opened April 1998 in Midlothian, Virginia. Tiffany and Gerry Sherman purchased the store June 2011. They and their team have guided the shop’s success to a larger space within the Sycamore Square Shopping Center allowing for a larger classroom, longarm area and lecture space as well as ample room for large variety of fabrics and Brother sewing machines. The staff is individually knowledgeable in a variety of techniques and technology within the sewing, quilting and embroidery spheres and look forward to assisting you with all your project needs.
