Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Historic 1917 Courthouse. A special event is planned to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the day the cornerstone for the courthouse was laid in 1917. The original 1749 bell, which is three years older than the Liberty Bell, will be on permanent display in the Chesterfield County Museum along with a special exhibit about the history of the 1917 courthouse. A replacement courthouse bell will be rung to open the ceremony. The celebration will include an unveiling of a new interpretive sign on the courthouse green and a reenactment of the first court case in 1918 on the lawn outside the courthouse. Fort Lee personnel will participate with soldiers representing the WW! draftees from 1917, the Fort Lee 392nd Band will perform and there will be displays of tactical vehicles from the 502nd Transportation Company, as well as additional displays about Fort Lee's 100 years of history. Tours will be available at the 1917 Courthouse, County Museum, and Historic 1892 Jail.
