A weekly concert showcasing Richmond’s Goldmine of music talent! In person and livestreamed, presented by Shockoe Records and In Your Ear Studios.
Saint Samuel has been an artist from Richmond, VA, since January 2021. Sam McCoig (Saint Samuel) played under a few bands and his name for about ten years leading up to the release of Saint Samuel a year and a half ago. After taking a three-month break from publically playing and releasing music, Sam decided he wasn't playing the kind of music that was true to him. His influences had dramatically changed. He grew up into a different person than he used to be and decided that the thing he loves the most and holds the closest to his heart should reflect that. After building up his self-titled artist project, Sam McCoig, for six years, he ditched it. He flipped the entire thing over. With an entirely new name, sound, image, and hair color (which used to be blonde), he came up with Saint Samuel. The name is slightly ironic. Some people see the name and think it's some religious music, but that is not the case. The name is somewhat ironic because sometimes, he cannot be such a saint, which he talks about in one of his songs appropriately titled "Such a Saint." Sam writes, produces, and works BTS on just about everything he puts out. He loves writing songs, especially with the new addition of his co-writer and piano player, Emily Bruzzo. But much of his passion lies within production, music video directing/editing. It started as a way to cut the budget down. But now, it's where he lives—creating, singing, performing. It's his livelihood.
