Slow Pulp

Slow Pulp brings a decade of musical collaboration to Richmond, with a sound shaped by 1990s alternative rock and the 2000s indie wave. The Chicago-via-Madison quartet pairs Emily Massey’s vocals and guitar with Henry Stoehr’s guitar, Alex Leeds’s bass and Teddy Mathews’s drums. Their records move between full-bodied rock, power-pop lift and quieter acoustic feeling, while candid songwriting gives the songs an intimate edge. The tour follows Melodie, the band’s third album, whose material grew from renewed songwriting collaboration between Massey and Stoehr. Her New Knife joins the bill, rounding out an evening centered on adventurous guitar music and contrasting textures. Expect a live set that can shift from direct, energetic rock to more spacious, reflective passages.
