Join together with history experts and community leaders, led by Dr. Lauranett Lee, to honestly explore the evolution of the African American experience from the turn of the 20th century to today. Guests are encouraged to bring opinions and ideas regarding historical and modern-day representations of African American democracy, diversity and opportunity, especially in relation to the Maymont Mansion domestic service exhibition that interprets the work and home lives of the African American staff at Maymont, 1893-1925. The Maymont Mansion Belowstairs exhibition will be open to registrants from 4:30-5:30pm for self-guided tours, and a reception will follow the discussion. This program has been funded in part by a grant from Virginia Humanities. Free admission. Advance registration is required. Register online at maymont.org by October 3.
