George Washington's Distillery and Gristmill

George Washington’s Gristmill and Distillery showcase the successful business acumen and innovative farming skills of our nation’s first president. Demonstrations of the mill are given by millers in early-American attire. Ground cornmeal produced on site is available at the gift shop. The distillery was once the largest in America, producing 11,000 gallons of whiskey in 1799, making it one of Mount Vernon’s most successful economic enterprises.
