Rockingham of Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM, 102 m. (211 alt., 2,906 pop.), seat of Richmond Co., lies on a pleasant plateau surmounting a hill. Established hi 1785, it was named for the Marquis of Rockingham, who befriended the Colony before the Revolutionary War. Many of the inhabitants are descendants of original settlers, and the corporate limits of the town are practically the same as when it was laid out.
