Toni Bastian, Group Tour & Visitor Center Manager
Tell us about your role at Richmond Region Tourism.
As the Group Tour Manager, I promote our regional hotels, attractions and restaurants to domestic and international tour operators and assist with creating engaging itineraries. The opportunity to work with tour operators from the planning stages to greeting their groups upon arrival is gratifying. I also oversee the operation of Richmond Region Visitor Centers. It is an honor to manage a dynamic team of destination specialists providing first class customer service to our visitors.
What is one of your favorite projects you worked on this year?
A special project I’ve worked on this year has been working with VisitAble to create a more inclusive destination for people with disabilities.
What is something that surprised you about our local tourism industry when you began your role or career?
I’ve been surprised by the number of travelers who come to our visitor center after driving through the area for years. Many of the travelers never realized how much there is to do in the Richmond Region and are excited to plan a trip back to spend more time in the area.
What continues to inspire you about your role?
The Richmond Region is an evolving destination full of creativity and cultural diversity. There is something for everyone to enjoy.
When you have friends and family visiting, where do you take them in RVA?
I enjoy taking visiting friends to Henricus Historical Park, the Richmond Metro Zoo and then enjoying an amazing meal at a locally owned restaurant. There are so many fantastic restaurants!
