Tiki Barber to Host First-Ever RVA Sports Awards

Honorees at the RVA Sports Awards on Feb. 5 will receive their awards from one of the state’s most prominent sports legends: NFL alum Tiki Barber.

Barber will host the region’s inaugural sports awards show, which will recognize outstanding athletes and leaders in the community. Before launching a successful television and book career, Barber played for the New York Giants for 10 seasons. He was born in Roanoke.

“I am thrilled to host the inaugural RVA Sports Awards this coming February and help showcase what is truly one of the best sports communities in Virginia,” said Tiki Barber. “I hope you will join me in what is sure to be a night to remember on the red carpet.”

Award nominations close on Dec. 1 at 11:59 p.m. and include the following categories:

  • Techno Branded Swag Female Athlete of the Year

  • SouthState Male Athlete of the Year

  • Synergy Technical Team of the Year

  • Brown Distributing Coach of the Year

  • Rebkee Moment of the Year

Three finalists for each public voting category will be announced on Dec. 15 and public voting will begin at www.RVASportsAwards.com.

Athletes and coaches participating in all levels of sports – from youth leagues and high schools to colleges and the professional ranks – in the Richmond region and athletes who are from the area can be nominated.

The region wide event is presented by Rosie’s Gaming Emporium and Colonial Downs and honors people working to better the region through sports.

“Our sports community is strong, resilient and innovative,” said J.C. Poma, Richmond Region Tourism Vice President of Community Relations. “Sports brings people together and builds local pride. We’re looking forward to honoring those that make our region a better place at the RVA Sports Awards.”

Proceeds from the RVA Sports Awards support the Foundation’s Sports Tourism Grant initiative, which distributes grants to local sports organizations to develop new events and expand the promotion of existing events to attract new visitors to the region.
