Getting to and Around the Historic Richmond Region is Easy!

Easy to Access

  • Withhin a day's drive of half the U.S. population
  • Two hours South of Washington, D.C., and two hours west of the Atlantic Coast
  • Easily accessible by plane, train, motor coach and automobile

PLANE: Richmond International Airport (15 minutes from downtown) offers world-wide connections and more than 20 non-stop domestic flights on seven major airlines: low cost carriers AirTran and JetBlue; international carrier Air Canada; American Airlines, Delta, United and US Airways.

TRAIN: Amtrak has two stations in the Richmond Region: Main Street Station (downtown) and Staples Mill (Henrico County).

BUS: Greyhound/Trailways (minutes from downtown Richmond) offers a convenient, low-cost travel option. Megabus offers fares as low as $1 with routes between more than 70 North American cities.

CAR: Enjoy easy access to Interstates 95 and 64, which provide direct routes to destinations all across the eastern half of the U.S.

Easy to Navigate

CAR: Major arteries connecting the region include Interstates 95, 64, 295 and 895 (Pocahontas Parkway), as well as Routes 288 and 250 (Broad Street). Tolls ranging from 20 cents to $3.25 are found on the Downtown Expressway, Powhite Parkway and Pocahontas Parkway.


TAXIS, RENTALS & CHARTER VEHICLES: Reliable, affordable taxis operate throughout the region. Charter services, luxury limousines, handicapped-accessible vehicles and rental cars are also widely available.

BUS: GRTC Transit System is the Region's public bus service. Additionally, To the Bottom and Back and To the Museums and Back offer free shuttle services to Carytown, the Fan, Shockoe Slip/Bottom, University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as to many local attractions and museums.

PARKING: On-street, metered parking in the city is available and is generally FREE weekdays after 6 p.m. and on weekends. Paid parking lots are also located throughout downtown Richmond.
