WELCOME TO THE RICHMOND REGION, NEW YORKERS

And now for something completely different…

The streets are covered in art. White water rafters are cutting through the downtown. Our restaurants have put us on “the world’s best” list. And there’s a story at every corner – with historic markers to prove it.

This is the Region of Richmond, Virginia, brimming with energy for New Yorkers looking for something different. And it’s no wonder – we’re just a few hours by car or train (and a little over an hour by plane.) Once you get here, you’ll experience a glorious mashup of the arts, the outdoors and Just In Richmond attractions and activities.

AHHH, FRESH AIR

Rent a bike to ride the 52-mile Capital Trail. Take on the class II and IV rapids of the James River. Walk through charming neighborhoods and soak in more than 100 building-sized murals. Go hiking, tubing, mountain biking, bird watching or people watching. This is a place where the city meets the sweet Virginia breeze, so come on out and play.

1,000+ PLACES TO EAT

Okay, New York, you have great restaurants. But come here, and you’ll know why USA Today called Richmond one of the “10 most interesting food scenes across the country.” As Southern Living says, here, “You’ll find fine dining, but it’s done playfully and with satirical self-awareness.” Fresh seafood. Soul food. Escargots a la ham biscuit. Your table awaits.

ART, ART, EVERYWHERE

A few items for your list: see the VMFA’s Rumors of War, Kehinde Wiley’s barrier-breaking monument to modern man. Do a street art tour of Mending Walls, a public art project that brings together artists from different cultures and backgrounds to develop powerful artwork. Check out our 70+ galleries. Stroll the Arts District and visit the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Institute for Contemporary Art.

BRING THE KIDS

When it’s time for a healthy, fun, easy-going vacation, pack up and head here. Some of the most popular family favorites: Maymont Park, Kings Dominion, Lewis Botanical Gardens, the Children’s Museum of Richmond, the Science Museum of Virginia, and of course, the ice machine at the end of the hall in the hotel.

THE BLKRVA EXPERIENCE

Get to know BLK RVA, a celebration of the Black cultural experience in the Richmond Region and a guide to the arts and entertainment, food and drink, community and powerful history that make up Richmond’s unique soul. These itineraries can guide you on your way as you plan a trip, grab a bite and catch a vibe.
