Seniors Skip Day

Whether it’s a day away from work or a break from watching the grandkids, this holiday for travelling seniors is a spin on the high school tradition of skipping class to defy parents and school principals. But this time, the other seniors can enjoy a day or two without everyday responsibilities to do some things they love throughout the Richmond Region.

Fuel Up
Fuel up for fun with a grab-and-go breakfast from 521 Biscuits & Waffles in Richmond.

Hiking, Herons & History
Explore Dutch Gap and Henricus Historical Park in Chesterfield. Walk the trail at Dutch Gap for some fresh air and exercise and see the blue heron rookery and look for bald eagles and other native birds. Then, voyage back in time 400 years at Henricus.

Bikes & BBQ (6 miles roundtrip bike ride)
Rent a bike from Basket & Bike or Kul Wheels in Richmond and ride the Virginia Capitol Trail to lunch at The Original Ronnie’s BBQ in eastern Henrico before heading back to the bike rental location.

Unwind with Wine
Slow down the pace with some sips at Jolene Family Winery in New Kent and soak in the scenery from their patio overlooking a quiet little lake.

Dinner & Show
Head out to Hanover Tavern, one of the oldest taverns in the United States, for a unique dining experience and live theater.

BONUS DAY 2

Plants, Puts & Pints
Choose from gardens or golf (or do both!), plus a brewery. Admire the beautiful landscapes at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Henrico and/or head to nearby Belmont Golf Course which includes 12- and 18-hole options. Enjoy lunch at Lewis Ginter, SB’s Lakeside Love Shack or Hobnob, and then stop by Final Gravity Brewing Co. for a craft beer.
